Privacy Policy
Last updated: 20 September 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what information Clay Studio (“we”, “us”, the “App”) collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. The App is provided by Esther Cohen, HaMatzuk 5, Yokneam Illit, Israel, who is the data controller for everything described here and who can be reached at hello@claystudio.pro. By using Clay Studio you agree to this policy.
1. Your studio content
Clay Studio is offline-first: everything you create is written to your device immediately, and the App keeps working without a connection. When you are signed in, that content is also synchronised to your account on our servers, so it survives a reinstall, a lost phone, or a move to a new device. This covers:
- Your pieces and their lifecycle: names, numbers, stages, completion dates, firing cones and notes.
- Photos you add to a stage or to a glaze recipe. These are uploaded to private storage scoped to your account. Other users cannot read them, we do not sell them, and we do not share them with third parties for their own purposes. Photos you deliberately post to the Community feed are treated differently — see section 5.
- Your studio palette: saved glaze colours, clay bodies, cones and glaze recipes.
- Saved ideas you keep from the Inspiration grid.
Settings that only affect one installation — and your data while you are signed out — stay on the device and are not sent to us.
2. Account information
If you create an account or sign in, we collect the information needed to authenticate you and to identify you to other makers:
- Your email address (for email sign-in), or the name and email address provided by Google or Apple if you use those sign-in options.
- A user identifier that links your account to your data.
- Your potter name, and an optional profile picture. If you set a picture it is stored in a public storage bucket so it can be shown beside anything you post.
- The date your free trial began, and your subscription status if you subscribe.
Authentication is handled by Supabase, our backend provider.
3. Device and usage information
When you are signed in, we record basic, product-improvement analytics: which screens you open and which actions you take (for example, creating a piece or completing a stage). We do not collect the contents of your pieces, notes or photos as part of analytics.
We also record, per device you sign in on, the platform (iOS or Android), OS version, device model, app version, locale, country, time zone, and a device identifier the App generates. This tells us which builds and devices to support, and lets us deliver notifications. We generate a random installation identifier used only to roll out features gradually.
If you turn on notifications, we store a push token for that device so we can send them. You can silence notifications from inside the App at any time, or withdraw the permission in your device settings.
4. Third-party services
Clay Studio uses a small number of services to work. We share only the minimum data each one needs:
- Supabase: hosts authentication, your synchronised studio content, photo storage, analytics and app configuration.
- An AI service provider: powers the optional AI features on the Inspiration grid. We send the answers you give on the Inspiration form, a keyword you type there, text prompts derived from a saved idea’s details (such as the type of vessel and glaze colours), and a summary of your studio — your clay bodies, the glazes you have on hand, the names of your own glaze recipes, and the names of pieces you are making, have in the kiln, or have finished. Requests are relayed through our own server, which holds the API key, so the provider does not receive your account, your email address or your sign-in credentials. We do not send your photos. We only use AI providers that do not use the content we send them to train their models.
- RevenueCat and the Apple App Store / Google Play: process subscriptions and tell us whether yours is active. We never see your payment card; the stores handle payment.
- Expo / EAS: used to build and deliver the App and its updates, and to deliver push notifications.
Each service handles data under its own privacy policy. We name providers by category here so that this policy stays accurate if we change one; if you would like to know which specific companies we currently use, write to hello@claystudio.pro and we will tell you.
5. The Community feed
Sharing to the Community feed is entirely optional, and nothing you make is posted unless you choose to post it. When you do share a piece, the following becomes visible to other Clay Studio users: the photo you selected, your caption, and details of the piece you chose to include (such as its glazes and clay body), alongside your potter name and profile picture. Likes, comments and who you follow are visible in the same way.
Photos attached to a post are stored in a public storage bucket, which means the underlying image address can be opened by anyone who has it — treat a post as public. Deleting a post removes it from the feed.
You can block another maker, and you can report a post or an account. Reports are stored with your account identifier so we can act on them.
6. How we use information
- To provide and maintain the App and its features, including keeping your studio in sync across your devices.
- To authenticate you and keep your account secure.
- To understand which features are used, and to diagnose crashes, so we can improve the App.
- To provide the optional AI, inspiration and community features you choose to use.
- To manage free trials and subscriptions.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.
7. Data retention and deletion
Your synchronised content and account data are kept while your account is active. Content stored on your device remains until you delete it or remove the App. You can delete your account and everything associated with it at any time:
- In the App: Profile → Delete account.
- By request: see our Data Deletion page, or email hello@claystudio.pro.
Deleting your account removes your authentication record, your synchronised pieces, stages, notes, glazes, recipes and saved ideas, your community posts and comments, your stored photos in both private and public storage, and your subscription records held by us. Analytics events are unlinked from your account rather than deleted, so they no longer identify you. After deletion, residual copies may remain in routine backups for up to 30 days before being overwritten, and we may retain limited records where required by law.
8. Children’s privacy
Clay Studio is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. New accounts confirm they meet this age at sign-up.
9. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export or delete your personal information. To make a request, contact us at hello@claystudio.pro. If you are in the EEA, the UK or California, you additionally have the right to access, correct, delete, export (data portability), and to object to or restrict certain processing of your personal information, as well as to lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority. Deleting your account from inside the App satisfies a deletion request immediately; for anything else, write to us at the address above. We do not sell your personal information.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we’ll revise the “Last updated” date above and, for material changes, provide notice in the App.
